Blog Psychodynamic Astrology Readings 3 – Positive and Negative Meaning in your Life

Life can seem such a battle.

‘Positive’ and ‘Negative’ are the terms used to describe astrological phenomena that are seen in your birth astrology or in your predictive astrology.

These terms used to describe the energies of the Planets, Signs, Houses, and Aspects and their interactions with each other.

Life can seem such a battle dealing with one thing after another. But what do these terms really mean?

To take an example, let’s look at the possible manifestations of the aspect: Mercury conjunct Mars which is in the heavens as this Post is being written.

+              the power of resolution or determination. Love of discussion or argument. The ability to judge. Practical disposition. Skill or dexterity. Quickness at repartee. Impressive speaking. Retaliation.

–            rashness, exaggeration. Quarrel. Grumbling. Fault-finding. Obstinacy and willfulness. Irritability. Nervousness. The utilization of other people’s ideas for one’s own benefit.

BIOLOGICAL: the motor-nervous system. Spastic paralysis. Nerve irritation. An increased sensitivity of reflex action

SOCIOLOGICAL: the critic. The speaker in a discussion group

PROBABLE MANIFESTATIONS:

+                 achieving success through spirit of enterprise and power of determination

–                  getting involved in disputes or controversies or law suits. Bringing about disputes.

The point is that all energies can be experienced as either ‘Good’ or ‘Bad’ depending on the individual’s view and insight, depending on their level of experience, depending on their level of awareness or enlightenment.

Looking back on situations where we deemed the manifestation of an energy to be Negative it’s possible that we may later see it as having some Positive attributes contained within it.  The developmental stage of the individual has much to do with how they perceive events and feelings.

Manifestations of the energies can also occur on many levels, such as Social, Biological, and Psychological.  A combination of what is seen as Positive and Negative can arise simultaneously and also at different times in a person’s life. The energies simply indicate where opportunities for opening ourselves to a better awareness of our capabilities – and greater self-understanding is possible. Even as a result of bad experiences we can learn a lot, though we often may rely on the teaching and help of others to be able to do this.

Aspects in the birth chart such as conjunction, sextile, trine for example are generally categorised into ‘Harmonious’ and aspects such as conjunction, opposition, square, quincunx and semi-sextile are generally categorised as  ‘Challenging’. The Harmonious aspects are interpreted with more of a positive angle than the Challenging which is often seen as Negative. But care should be taken with this general view.

The Negative interpretation of the Challenging or stressful aspects as being malefic is due to the tension inherent in the energy dynamic which can cause anxiety and suffering and it’s difficult to ignore them. But this energy emphasises where we need to become more aware and responsible for the quality of our actions and where there’s potential for a heightening of our level of consciousness and understanding. We therefore see that these Challenging aspects can be ultimately stimulating us to see where we can achieve something in life, so there can be a Positive interpretation of this. This is such an important point to understand.

The so-called Challenging aspects are strongly activating and character-building, but they also can be the cause of aggression of some kind.

So much depends on our level of awareness.
And courage may be needed to overcome them.

Some people may be stimulated by challenges more than others therefore they may not be affected so adversely. An overview of the rest of the chart is needed to see in what way this can be handled to benefit the person involved.

Positive attributes are more often than not given to the ‘Harmonious’ aspects or chart aspect shapes in our charts due to their giving a pleasurable, easy feeling, but this feeling can become a habitual or addictive pattern of behaviour which if not worked on may mean the loss of the energy or even loss of the talent inherent in the flow.

For example the chart aspect shape called a Grand Trine, can indicate a particular talent (depending on where the planets involved are situated). But it’s often the case that the talent goes unrecognised if its use hasn’t been required in a person’s life, or if there is a laziness with regard to using it. In these cases, the talent can be lost. Trines are lazy aspects. They need to be consciously understood and worked on.

So these free flowing Blue aspects can also cause a lot of pain just like the Red challenging aspects if we become stuck in old ways that have become too comfortable. They are part of our character and want to be recognised so in their own way they can be very demanding.

Let’s look at the signs: The signs in the Western birth chart are each ruled by one or more of the planets i.e. they exemplify the energy of that planet in their manifestation.

An Aries character, for instance, is ruled by Mars. If the Sun is placed in Aries in your birth chart, here could indicate a fiery energy needing to express itself in an action orientated, adventurous, or dominant kind of way which they would enjoy and find those attributes ‘positive’, ‘beneficial’ and ‘easy to live with’. Others might be appalled at your ‘me first’ assertion of course!

Yet a Pisces Sun’s dreamy and easy going  nature could experience Aries/Mars energy as ‘Negative’, ‘over powering’  and ‘exhausting’ and ‘challenging to be around’.

Having Mars in the sign Cancer in your birth chart would be seen as inharmonious as this would be again a ‘fire with water’ steamy combination of energies. But even though the Mars energy may not fit easily with watery Cancer and could bring a depletion of energy and may dampen the spirit to action, it could be harnessed in the way of directing the energy towards protecting and caring for the family where it may be able to express itself more easily.

This all of course also depends on the other dynamics going on in the chart.

In Predictive Astrology, Transits to natal planets and their aspects etc. can act as trigger points for the energies they hit, stimulating our conscious awareness of them.

The important point is that our level of comprehension of the energy they bring, whether they are manifesting in the outer or inner world or both, brings our free will into play as to how we view or use the energy. The more insight we develop, the more free will we develop.

It is the Higher spirit, the Universal energy, ‘God within us’ that is urging us to grow and our view of  ‘fortunate’ or ‘unfortunate’ is not inherent in the energy – it’s just a view.

All this reminds me of a tale I read many years ago which I love: The Parable of the Chinese Farmer

Once there was a Chinese farmer who worked his poor farm together with his son and their horse. When the horse ran off one day, neighbours came to say, “How unfortunate for you!” The farmer replied, “Maybe yes, maybe no.”

When the horse returned, followed by a herd of wild horses, the neighbours gathered around and exclaimed, “What good luck for you!” The farmer stayed calm and replied, “Maybe yes, maybe no.”

While trying to tame one of wild horses, the farmer’s son fell, and broke his leg. He had to rest up and couldn’t help with the farm chores. “How sad for you,” the neighbours cried. “Maybe yes, maybe no,” said the farmer.

Shortly thereafter, a neighbouring army threatened the farmer’s village. All the young men in the village were drafted to fight the invaders. Many died. But the farmer’s son had been left out of the fighting because of his broken leg. People said to the farmer.

“What a good thing your son couldn’t fight!” “Maybe yes, maybe no,” was all the farmer said.

Everything is connected to the intelligent Universal energy, but humans are very rarely able to perceive the divine meaning in the order of things.

Like the Yin and Yang, everything encompasses both light and dark; the balance of doing and being, positive and negative.

Blog Psychodynamic Astrology Readings 2 – Nature versus Nurture – How does this affect Love in your Life?

Great value can be received from an Astrology reading that includes psychodynamic Astrology.

One of the techniques of psychodynamic astrology is to interpret what your nature is and then compare this to a statement of the effect of your nurture.

What are we? Are we our nature? or are we the result of our nurture?

In astrology, the chart of our nature is the birth chart often called the ‘Radix chart’. The chart of our nurture is the House chart.

In our Radix or birth chart, note that the signs areof equal size. This is because ‘planets in signs’ are deemed to be our nature: our inherited nature.

In our House chart, however, note that by contrast the houses are of equal size. This is because houses show the effect of our environment in our life, and of all our environments, our earliest environment or our ‘nurture’ is of course the key influence overlying our nature.

Sometimes our ‘nurture’ or our upbringing (especially our earliest upbringing), improves what our nature offers us.

But other times we find that our nurture/upbringing skews what we are away from our nature, sometimes in a terribly difficult and major way.

In my astrology readings, I include a nature versus nurture analysis.

In our example, this person has a romantic and visionary Neptune-Venus aspect in their birth chart which is their nature. See chart 1 below. Venus is a prime indicator for love in your life.

However, as you can see from this person’s House Chart which is the chart of nurture/upbringing (chart 2, below), this person’s earliest environment has brought Venus into an angry impatient square (90 deg aspect) with Uranus. Not good: Uranus tends to soar above relationships, always wanting the new. In mythology, Uranus ate his children.

In fact it is very helpful insight to have your birth chart and your House chart compared. This way you can be shown  how they will make you live your life.

The comparison is done in terms of modalities (cardinal, fixed and mutable) and also Elements (Fire, Earth, Air and Water). Chart 3, below,  is the comparison Table for the person described in this example.

As you can see from the Table, this person has been made far Cardinal: far more impatient (for love and to be noticed) than is their nature.
They have also been made to dig their heels in (more Fixed).
And they have been made unconfident about trying out anything different from their habitual patterns (mutability reduced).
Their Fire has been put out and their Water increased leaving them to dwell in hurt sensitivity but also become a lot more sensitive and psychic.

‘Nature versus Nurture’ issues need to be made clear, and their meaning needs to be understood, if we are to heal our lives. It is as simple as that

Trained astrological guidance on this sort of thing is invaluable. Of course it has to be expert and it has to be positive and empowering.

It can be coupled with counselling sessions. Or it can be healed by releasing bodily held distress which the existence of these cut off planets in your birth chart points to. Blog Psychodynamic Astrology Readings 1 – Cut off Planets

Great value can be received from an Astrology reading that includes psychodynamic Astrology .

One of the techniques of psychodynamic astrology is to interpret the meaning of planets that are ‘cut off’ from the rest of the chart.

In our first example, this person has a cut off romantic and visionary Neptune-Venus aspect, indeed is pointed into Earth Spirituality too, because Neptune is near the IC the bottom of the chart. The chart is shown below.

But this beautiful aspect is in practice ‘cut off’ from the rest of his chart by the red Saturn-Mars square aspect which is implacable, unremitting hard work.

In our second example, this person even has a ‘cut off Sun’, where Sun in the birth chart is the divine charioteer who directs and controls the chariot of self. The chariot is cut off from the charioteer in her case. Again, the chart is shown below.

Note that her Sun is considered ‘cut off’ by the constant irritation of the nagging Chiron-Venus semi-sextile which is all about a wound to value, a wound to acceptance of the body, also manifesting as the ability to be loving to people/situations where most would not: the person trained to endlessly help others.

These cut of aspects need to be made clear and their meaning needs to be understood, if we are to heal our lives.

An example of a healing approach is my partner Maggie Pashley at http://www.bodycodehealing.co.uk

Chart for Saturday 24th May 2015 : A lot of Creative Power being offered to you!

I see a lot of creative energies in the chart for this Bank Holiday Saturday in UK.

There is an angry Sun-Mars-Mercury conjunction, which could mean lots of arguing and fighting. But it need not do so. This energy’s higher meaning can give you good, directed communication where you clearly and successfully express what you need to express: your essence. Remember, the ideal is that we can choose to see the higher potential in everything coming our way: hard though that often is.

There’s an expansive and mind-enlarging Moon-Jupiter conjunction.

And note that the Sun-Mars-Mercury conjunction and the Moon-Jupiter conjunction are actually two corners of a powerful chart aspect shape called a Yod: a finger of God.

Tuatha de Danaan – A New Novel on the Way

cover Marion Dowd The archaeology of caves in Ireland I drew an Ogham Few this morning – and got Hazel.
I took this to be major and fortunate and to mean ‘Inspiration’.
I feel this is a major ‘step out time’ for me now.
I have been working very long hours mostly on Vedic Astrology for some months, but last week I had a Rune Reading which started with Tir which means Victory, and yesterday I recorded an access document for my Rune Course to make visionary contact with the Norse Goddess Freya and a drumming journey to meet Her, and these ‘broke the dam’.
So drawing Hazel this morning confirms I am inspired to now bring through into the form realm my next novel which I have been researching for months.
As a final step of preparation which I will make concurrent to doing the first pieces of writing of the novel, I shall start with composing access guides to the Gods and Goddesses of the ancient Irish such as the Dagdha, the Morrigan, Dian Cecht and Airmid, and doing drumming journeys to meet each of them.

Worldwide Rune Course.

rune ehwaz Enrol for my worldwide Rune Course. The Rune Course is learned and powerful. It is strong and beautiful transformation.  .

You get sent a presentation of how the Rune has been understood through the millennia. You then complete your own visionary journey for each Rune.

People also share partly on their experience of each rune, and also on using runes and rune-casts for Divination, partly to deepen their visionary connection with the Norse Gods such as Odin, Freyr, Heimdall, and partly to share and support each other on their spiritual journey at the moment. I refer to your astrology for deeper insight as well.

The horse in this picture is Sleipnir, the steed of Odin: great and powerful warrior, magician God.

Here’s what a couple of the students wrote about their experience after studying the rune Ehwaz, and completing the journey to drumming that each person gets sent for each rune:

Frank, England:
In Norse mythology Yggdrasil is represented by the yew tree. The yew tree is strong but flexible just as Odin had to be when he hung from the tree for nine days in order to gain knowledge of the runes. Surrender and sacrifice are important if you want to gain anything of significance. Payment must be made as Odin sacrifices one of his eyes. This ordeal brought a kind of death and rebirth. He had to face his inner fears, demons and dark side as we must sometimes do to progress and evolve. By facing and indeed embracing our own dark side we can bring about great transformation and regeneration. Growth and spiritual expansion follow. Facing our own demons and fears can make us stronger and less fearful and will enable us to face the challenges we face in life.

Inner journeys are implied by this rune, going down deep into the underworld just as roots of Yggdrasil do. Sinking down into hidden depths of our own very soul to discover who and what we are and what we are meant to do is represented by this rune. In order to do this we have to be very committed, determined, resourceful,  dedicated and fearless. We can take heart that if we are, the rewards can be great.

Veronica, Dallas, Texas:
I had felt a really close connection to the rune Ehwaz. For me, I do see myself as being a person who has moved and travelled. I do like to stay busy and traveling to various places has helped me in my social life as well.
The energy of Ehwaz for me, is about relating to others who have been abused. My boyfriend was abused physically, verbally, mentally and emotionally so for me, there’s a soft spot in my heart for those who’ve been hurt. I’ve also have gone through being verbally abused by others.
The energy for me, was about needing to take the time to not be tied to one place. For me, it’s ok to be busy but I’ll want to take time to rest and reflect on what is happening in my life. I see this rune, as being one of helping others to heal.
For me, my own purpose, is to assist others in their own healing on all levels of themselves. The energy of Ehwaz is about connecting with a higher source of power and wisdom a higher force, to be a guiding light in order to help others. I see this as also being a rune of inner strength.
There seems like it would be about having a two way street, receiving and giving to others, as well as experiencing a lot of energy shifting. For me, moving would be not only in a physical sense but also spiritually as this rune for me is about transition in one’s life. This is also about taking the time to find a way to be more stable.
It may be that people just like to move around and travel, though for me, there seems to come a point where I need to get to know the area which I’ve moved to, to see if I like it or not. The other message that comes to me is the bond between animal and humans.
I know others who enjoy horses, so I can relate to that, and I can tell that others who I’ve talked to enjoy riding their horse. The message for me is also about needing to take time to just be with your animal, whichever it is, and spend time with it.
I feel that in terms of the two way street, it’s in terms of communication or having a bond with someone. I see it as, having a conversation with someone back and forth, relating to them.
In relationships if one person is only talking to the person and the person isn’t talking back to them, for me communication would be only one sided which for me wouldn’t be healthy. There would need to be some form of communication between both parties involved.

Blessings but Great Tension: Vedic and Western Astrology Notes for May, June and July 2015, and onwards:

To return to the notes for May 2015 and onwards:

The Blessings are created first from the fact that Jupiter is transiting in Vedic Cancer, the sign of his exaltation.

The Second Blessing is due to the fact that throughout May there’s a string of three benefic planets in a row: Mercury is in Vedic Taurus, Venus in the next sign Vedic Gemini and Jupiter in the next sign after that Vedic Cancer. This formation creates a special ‘Yoga’ or combination called Adhi yoga which will be a particularly good energy for all of us but especially for those with Ascendant (Lagna) or Moon in the Vedic sign of Sagittarius, bringing them, especially, protection and spiritual opportunity.

The Third Blessing is from the fact that Mercury is in Venus-ruled sign Vedic Taurus and Venus is in Mercury-ruled sign Vedic Gemini This yoga is called Parivartana yoga and is good for all of us but especially we will feel this blessing if we have planets in the Vedic signs of Taurus, Virgo and Aquarius.

The Great Tension, on the other hand, comes through two big challenges.
The first is created by the fact that Mars is opposition Saturn in the heavens.
The second is the fact that Mercury is Retrograde from May 18th to June 11th.  Though please do read on to see below where I identify how we can actually even find blessing and personal growth out of these two challenges.

In fact, do note however, in the usual worldly sense, from the Mars – Saturn opposition, there is a big risk of tension, irritation, anger and even maniacal rage or demonic shouting and road rage – or even worse than that: throwing your toys out of the pram at this time!
On the social plane this is riot.
On the Earth plane, this is earthquake.

Western and Vedic Astrology: Note that this Report mainly uses the sure and accurate declaration of Vedic Astrology, but with some western astrology cross-over. What’s the difference? Well, Vedic Astrology is rooted in our incarnational life purpose whereas Western Astrology is attuned to our psychological self. But please note that where a western astrology sign is named, this sign starts at 24 degrees of the preceding Vedic sign. So, for example, the western sign of Aries starts at 24 Vedic Pisces.
There’s a zodiac comparison wheel at the foot of the post which makes the relationship between the western and Vedic Zodiacs clear.

MARS OPPOSITION SATURN: The reason for this violent energy pervading our minds is the fact that Mars and the Sun are close to each other in the heavens – and they are opposite Saturn:

Mars/Saturn is an implacable, dictatorial, restrictive and limiting aspect. It can be cold. It can be tense and argumentative. It does not duck conflict at all. It’s a military or concentration camp energy. Mars opposition Saturn puts us on the defensive at best, the offensive at worst at this time. If you do start a confrontation, you will likely lose because you will so hurt the other person.  It can be good for getting things done, but often in a bad spirit. It’s bad for loving relationship. It does carry an energy of death and endings.

So, to make everything this potentially vicious or fixed, Mars is opposition Saturn in the heavens from 4th May to 15th June.
Mars is in Vedic Taurus (an Earth sign, hence Earthquake). Saturn is transiting Vedic Scorpio from November 2014 to 26th October 2017.

Look at Chart 1: the Vedic chart for 4th May. It shows the moment Mars enters Vedic Taurus. You can see that Mars is in opposition a very torturously slow-moving Saturn.  Saturn is moving slowly retrograde until August 1st when he will become stationary, and then he will turn with great deliberation to move direct once more. Remember: the slower a planet’s movement, the deeper he etches his effects. And remember, when a planet is retrograde it’s effect is Vakri or twisted, manifesting in a back-handed way with the divine purpose that we will have to make extra special effort to understand his energy, his purpose, his effect.

And of course, there’s another factor is that you can see from the following chart for 4th May, Mars is conjunct Mercury in Vedic Taurus which doesn’t necessarily lead to gentle sweet speech. You have been warned. Try to use this awareness if such situations arise. Forewarned can mean fore-armed! Well, that’s the theory! That’s what we should aim for.

Chart 1: Vedic chart for 4th May 2015:

Now 4.5.2015

BUT – remember, what I have been describing is the lower consciousness meaning of the energy that the planets are filtering to us. There is also a higher consciousness meaning that we can all try to perceive and try to reach for. Please read on.

Note: the Western tropical zodiac is inside; The Vedic sidereal zodiac outside. So the direction of rotation is anti-clockwise.

Example: My Moon in my birth chart is at 29 deg Vedic Pisces, which as you can see is at 26 degrees Western Aries.

Zodiacs: Brief Explanation:
Put very simply, the two zodiacs measure different things:

The Vedic Zodiac interprets our incarnational life purpose; the western zodiac interprets our egoic psychology.
The Vedic Zodiac is anchored to a fixed star (Spica); the western zodiac by contrast starts with 0 deg Aries as the position occupied by the Sun on the day of the Vernal equinox and this shifts against the background of the stars by a degree every 72 years. The two zodiacs are thus 24 degrees apart now.
The shift in the position of the Western Zodiac is due to the Precession of the Equinoxes (caused by the wobble in the Earth’s axis of rotation).
